GRAND TOTAL FOR THE WEEK - $71.79 (over budget by $11.79)

I went quite a bit over budget this week, partly because I didn't want to pass up the $1.49lb marked down ground beef on Tuesday and also because Kroger had their batteries 50% off this week. We needed to stock up on AA and AAA batteries. On top of that, the Clear Passage nasal strips have gone up from $6.67 to $7.47 and Walmart was out of the smaller spray bottles of shower spray so I had to buy the large refill size.

I went to Kroger twice this week because I wanted to get some of their CARBmaster raspberry white chocolate yogurt which I can't get at my regular Kroger store.

I made several changes to this week's menu. Because we ate dinner at a wedding last Saturday and went out for dinner on Sunday, we ended up with so many leftovers from last week that we were still eating them yesterday. I never made the Tuna Muffins and I've taken the Green Enchilada Chicken off the menu as well. We've still got quite a bit of the pot roast left and almost all of the Coney Island Chili Dog Pie. If by some chance we run out of food between now and Sunday, I can always make burgers. I have some frozen patties that are already cooked and I've also got frozen raw patties that I made with some of the marked down ground beef that I bought on Tuesday.

I'm making one other change too because I ordered some blanched almond flour from Honeyville last week. Instead of making the Frozen Strawberry Dessert, I'm going to make Kent's Low Carb Poke Cake with a couple of changes. I'm thawing some frozen strawberries and draining them. I will use the strawberry juice in place of some of the water when I make the jello and I will spread the berries over the top of the cake before adding the topping. I have a feeling that it will look a little messy with the berries on it but I'm sure that it will taste great.

Tuesday Shopping

I got a great deal on the ground beef today at only $1.49 pound! I had enough to freeze in seven 1-pound baggies and I made twelve half-pound burger patties and froze those too.

Details on Thursday...

P.S. - I forgot to mention why I bought that funny looking jicama that you see in the photo. I'm planning to try Peggy's Jicama Fries recipe tomorrow. Post a comment if you've tried Peggy's recipe. I'd love to hear what you thought of them. You can find the recipe HERE

Sprouts coming to Spring

My husband just read on our neighborhood website that they're building a Sprouts Farmers Market just down the road from here less than a mile from me. It will be right on the way to Walmart and Kroger. I couldn't find anything about it on the Sprouts website but a Google search brought up THIS Facebook page about it. Now I'm glad that I never got around to checking out the other location that's a bit of a drive from here.

More clothes bargains

My husband and I went to the Treasures of the Heart charity shop together this afternoon. I didn't take any photos this time but we did VERY well. He needed something to wear to a wedding this weekend and he found two good pairs of wool trousers, a nice shirt that goes well with both of them and a tie to match the shirt. All that came to just $9.10! I bought myself a pair of blue jeans, a nightie and nine casual tops. The total for everything was just over $38.00. Jerry even said that he'd go back there with me the next time I go.

The ice cream was requested by my husband and it was on sale for the lowest price I've seen it in many, many years. I didn't figure this into my budget for this week, but I ended up getting a full refund today at Kroger for the two cartons of eggs that I bought last week. You see, they had cartons of 18 eggs on sale 2/$3.00 last week but they rang up at $1.99 each. For my inconvenience, they refunded the entire $3.98 that I paid. My total for this week would be $50.87 after the refund.

GRAND TOTAL FOR THE WEEK - $60.26

I didn't do too badly this week. I just missed my $60.00 limit by 26-cents. I did splurge on nice tomatoes this time because I'm using them in the Cauliflower & Ham Salad that I'm making tomorrow. I got a great deal on the paper muffin cups. They're usually 75-cents at Kroger but they had them on sale for 69-cents and I had a coupon for 55-cents off two. So, I got both of them for less than the price of one package at Walmart. They charge 92-cents for them there. You really have to watch Walmart's prices. They'll have really good prices on some things and then charge too much for others. It pays to keep track of what things cost at the stores where you shop regularly.
